A Scottish couple who had their honeymoon ruined after being hospitalised with gastric illness are pursuing tour operator Thomas Cook for compensation, reports Travel Weekly.

Ewan and Leah Gerr were staying at the Hotel Tuana in Side near Antalya on the Turkish coast when they were both struck down with the same illness which resulted in them being admitted to a Turkish hospital for three days and having to meet bills of £2,000 for their treatment.

A spokesperson for Thomas Cook said that an investigation of the couple’s case would take place. “We take all reports of illness very seriously. We have only been made aware of the couple’s illness very recently and a full investigation will take place once we receive further information.”
