Over 400 tourists are claiming against tour operator First Choice after becoming ill on holiday at the Bahia Principe San Juan in the Dominican Republic.
The claims all relate to an outbreak of illness in 2007. It is alleged that the claimants from across the country suffered gastroenteritis after staying at the 4* resort, complaining of raw and cooked meats being kept side by side, food left uncovered, cutlery and crockery not properly washed, meals served cold and undercooked, and reports of dogs, mice, birds and insects in the restaurant and around food.
Claimants are suing the tour operator for, amongst other things, illness, injury, loss of value and enjoyment of their holiday, inconvenience, distress, discomfort and anxiety.
Despite the claims, First Choice moved to reassure customers that conditions at the hotel were of “excellent levels of quality and standards”.
“We are very confident that guests due to travel [to Bahia Prinicipe San Juan] in the future will have a wonderful holiday”.
